As a child of immigrant parents, this issue is close to home for me. My mother and father came to this country with dreams of a better life in America. I’ve seen the joys and sorrows, triumphs and failures of an immigrant family. I am forever proud tof being both born and bred a Brooklynite and of my Caribbean heritage.

I will definitely take a leadership role in any bill or project that enhances the way of life of immigrant New Yorkers and boosts the feelings of power and belonging which increases immigrants’ chances of success.

I will fight to:

• Ensure that immigrant residents have access to resources that strengthen their lives
• Provide critical information in the native language of residents
• Do away with discrimination based on immigration status
• Provide funding for ESL classes
