Election Day 2012: New Yorkers encounter closed polling places, long lines in aftermath of Superstorm Sandy

EXCERPT: “Jesus Lord, it was terrible!” said Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn), who said people couldn’t even squeeze through the doors at Vanderveer Park/United Methodist Church in Flatbush.

“There were hundreds of people who waited over four hours,” Williams said, citing a lack of space and inexperienced poll workers for the mess. “The best way to describe it is chaos and a complete breakdown. A lot of people left”
