President Obama, a former community organizer, has sent a stimulus package to New York State. We all know that no one’s going to give us anything unless we scream together.

I will:

• Work with our federal representatives to ensure that the 45th Council District gets its fair share
• Make sure that the services received by our community either stay the same or are increased

Economic Prosperity

Times are hard but we can and will get through this together. We must bring jobs to the 45th. Our existing merchants can be instrumental in doing this. Having worked on the beginning stages of the Flatbush-Nostrand Junction Business Improvement District (BID), I have seen how great things can happen when our merchants and community work together.

There is no reason why our neighborhood cannot be a destination for people all over this city, in the same way that Harlem, Park Slope and Bedford-Stuyvesant are. We can and we will accomplish this by:

• Creating more Business Improvement Districts
• Expanding job-training programs
• Developing the commercial strips with one goal and one plan:becoming a destination for shoppers across the city
• Creating businesses and a workforce in the 45th that are prepared for the green jobs of the future
• Working with area merchants to create internship programs for our young people and unemployed workers
• Making sure the 45th gets money from the stimulus package to create new jobs
