Brooklyn politicians ask neighborhoods 'not to retreat' from growing gang issue at area playgrounds

EXCERPT: "It's definitely getting worse," said Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-East Flatbush), whose district includes Paerdegat Park. "We do have a gang problem. The answer is for the community not to retreat. The community should come out even more."

Williams hopes to get city funding to pay for nightlights at Paerdegat, where cops said Crips members have been smoking pot and dealing drugs throughout the summer.
