Brooklyn, NY - New York State Assemblymember James F. Brennan has officially endorsed Jumaane Williams for City Council in the 45th Council District (Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Canarsie and Flatlands).

Assemblymember Brennan, whose district covers a part of Council District 45, said that Williams is a compelling candidate who will make an impressive City Council Member. "I have known Jumaane D. Williams for over eight years and I am greatly impressed with his intelligence, ability and dedication to community service.  He would make an excellent member of the City Council and that is why I am supporting him."

Williams said he was honored to receive Brennan's endorsement.

"Assemblymember Brennan has been a strong advocate for many issues that are important to me, including working to prevent MTA fare hikes and service cuts; advocating for more transparency and vigilance under the new system of Mayoral Control of public schools; and most importantly, spearheading legislative efforts to bring much needed resources and relief to homeowners facing foreclosure. I look forward to partnering with him as a City Council Member to address these concerns on the local level."

The 45th Council District encompasses Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Canarsie and Flatlands. Jumaane Williams is running to address pressing community needs - the district has some of the highest HIV and infant mortality rates in New York City and includes the zip code with the highest number of subprime mortgage loans in New York State.

Williams grew up in Brooklyn and has worked for more than a decade as a community organizer and tenants' rights advocate, including serving as the Housing Director of Flatbush Development Corporation and Executive Director of New York State Tenants and Neighbors. He plans to use his organizing experience on the City Council to pursue real change and progress for the people of the 45th District.
